Marseille drop Igor Paixão valuation to €40m amid financial pressure

Marseille have reportedly reduced the asking price for winger Igor Paixão from €50m to approximately €40m. This €10m reduction comes as the French club faces increasing financial pressure regarding their squad cost rules and football earnings targets.

UEFA confirmed in June that Marseille breached these regulations, resulting in €10m in fines and restrictions on registering new players for their Europa League squad. These financial constraints make Paixão a significant saleable asset for the club as they seek to generate transfer income.

Leeds United previously declined to meet the initial €50m valuation, opting to wait for a more reasonable figure. The winger recorded six goals and five assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances during his first season in France, alongside four goals and one assist in eight Champions League matches.

Marseille originally signed the 26-year-old from Feyenoord in 2025 for a base fee of €30m plus €5m in potential bonuses. While his market value reached €35m in June 2026, the current negotiation has seen the asking price fluctuate significantly.
