Matteo Ruggeri joins Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in €17m move

Atlético Madrid have confirmed the signing of 24-year-old Italy left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta in a €17 million transfer.

Atlético Madrid have confirmed the signing of Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta for €17 million during the 2025/26 campaign. The 24-year-old Italian arrives as a left-back and is now listed as an Atlético Madrid player.

Ruggeri’s move completes a second spell of progression away from Atalanta. He first left the club for Salernitana in 2021/22 and also returned to Atalanta from Salernitana during the same campaign. His senior pathway began with Atalanta’s Under-20 side before he moved into the club’s first-team structure in 2020/21.

The transfer gives Atlético a player whose listed position is on the left side of defence. Ruggeri holds Italian citizenship and is 24 years old, placing the move within the next stage of his professional career after his earlier domestic transfers between Atalanta and Salernitana.

Ruggeri’s recorded market value at Atlético Madrid is €28 million. That figure is higher than the €17 million transfer fee attached to his move from Atalanta, although the two amounts describe different aspects of the transfer: one is a valuation and the other is the confirmed fee for the deal.

His injury record lists flu and a foot bruise. No further medical details are provided alongside the confirmation of his signing. The available information therefore establishes his new club, role, nationality, age, transfer route and the financial terms attached to the move.

Ruggeri is now part of Atlético Madrid after leaving the club where he developed from the Under-20 level and made his earlier senior moves. His career record includes transfers in both directions between Atalanta and Salernitana before the €17 million switch to Spain.
