Medeama SC chairman says new signings boost CAF Champions League bid

Medeama SC board chairman Dr Toni Aubynn has confirmed that the club has bolstered its squad with several new signings to prepare for the CAF Champions League. The Ghana Premier League champions are set to face Congolese side TP Mazembe in the preliminary round of the competition.

Dr Aubynn stated that the new players have already integrated into the team's pre-season training. He noted that the technical team conducted an assessment of the squad before releasing several players. Some departures were made to allow players to find regular football, while others were released to ensure the squad aligns with the club's tactical philosophy. The chairman believes the new arrivals will fill the gaps left by those who departed.

To prepare for their continental fixtures, Medeama has moved its training camp to Côte d’Ivoire. The team is currently playing a series of friendly matches there to improve fitness and refine their tactics. Aubynn added that the players are motivated by more than just financial incentives, noting that the sense of security provided by the club has aided their preparation.

In a significant development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has accredited the Tarkwa and T&A Park to host Medeama's home matches. This allows the club to play in Tarkwa rather than traveling to other cities. Dr Aubynn thanked CAF for the accreditation and acknowledged Gold Fields for supporting the development of the new stadium in Tarkwa.

Playing home matches in Tarkwa is expected to reduce logistical and financial pressures on the club. It will also make it easier for local supporters to attend matches, which was previously a challenge due to travel difficulties. The chairman believes having the home crowd present will provide an advantage as the club seeks to compete against top African teams.
