Mexico City’s Postal Palace Opens ‘Verde y Oro’ Boxing Exhibition

Mexico City’s Palacio Postal has opened “Verde y Oro”, an exhibition celebrating boxing history through memorabilia from major figures and a chronological display of the World Boxing Council’s championship belt. The show is being held at the landmark building in the capital’s Historic Centre.

The opening ceremony was led by Violeta Abreu, Director of Mexico’s Postal Service, and Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC. It took place during the organisation’s traditional Martes de Café gathering, which was hosted at the postal building. The event also marked the launch of the second edition of the Carta a mi Campeón competition.

Visitors can see gloves, robes, shorts, posters and other personal or competition-related items associated with champions and prominent boxers. The collection includes pieces linked to Julio César Chávez, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Jackie Nava, Jorge “Travieso” Arce, Salvador Sánchez and Raúl “Ratón” Macías.

A central part of the exhibition follows the development of the WBC’s Verde y Oro belt. Its display moves from the earliest versions of the championship award to special designs produced for significant occasions in the organisation’s history, giving the belt itself a timeline within the wider exhibition.

The opening also highlighted the connection between boxing and postal work through the story of Macías, who worked as a mail carrier early in his life before becoming a celebrated boxer. The exhibition remains open to the public until 25 October, from Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free for Mexican visitors.
