MFM finish Zenith Bank League Atlantic Phase 1 unbeaten, win 62-37

MFM completed the Zenith Bank League Atlantic Phase 1 unbeaten after a 62-37 victory over First Bank in Lagos.

MFM completed the Atlantic Conference’s First Phase of the NBBF/Zenith Bank Women Basketball League without a defeat, beating First Bank 62-37 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday.

The result gave the two-time league winners a perfect seven victories from seven games. First Bank, the competition’s record holders, ended the phase in third place after collecting five wins and suffering two losses.

MFM’s run keeps them at the top of the conference as they pursue a return to the title after losing the championship to Dolphins last season. Their closest challengers are Victoria Queens, who finished second with six wins and one defeat. Their only loss came against MFM.

Bayelsa Blue Whales secured fourth place with a 69-32 win over IGP Queens, taking their record to four victories and three losses. Royal Aces moved into fifth after beating defending champions Dolphins 49-39, leaving them with three wins from seven games.

Dolphins finished sixth with two victories, while First Deep Water were seventh after managing one win and six defeats. IGP Queens remained at the bottom without a victory after their loss to Bayelsa Blue Whales.

The Atlantic Conference teams will move on to the second phase in Port Harcourt in September. The Savannah Conference is due to complete its own first phase in Jos, with Customs leading Aso Queens and Air Warriors.
