Mighty Wanderers reclaim FDH Bank Premiership summit with 2-1 win
Mighty Wanderers returned to the FDH Bank Premiership summit after beating Red Lions 2-1, but Silver Strikers and Big Bullets remain close.
Mighty Wanderers moved back to the top of the FDH Bank Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Red Lions at Mpira Stadium on Saturday. The result took the Nomads to 29 points from 14 matches, restoring their position at the summit with the first round entering its final week.
The lead is narrow. Silver Strikers are one point behind Wanderers and have played one match fewer, leaving the Bankers with a direct opportunity to reclaim first place before the opening half of the season ends.
Silver Strikers will host Goshen City Dedza Dynamos at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday. A win would lift them back above Wanderers and ensure that the summit changes hands again as the leading clubs continue to jostle for position.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are also within reach of the leaders. The reigning champions will visit Dedza Stadium on Sunday to face Luanar Mitundu Football Club, with the outcome capable of further tightening the contest at the top.
Wanderers’ win over the Zomba-based Red Lions gives them momentum going into the final first-round fixtures, but it does not provide a decisive advantage. Silver’s game in hand means the current leaders cannot rely on their one-point margin to carry them through the closing matches.
The three leading clubs remain separated by only a small number of points, making each result in the final round significant. Wanderers currently hold first place on 29 points, while Sunday’s matches will determine whether they remain there or are overtaken before the second half of the campaign begins.
