Modiko expects competitive UJ-TUKS Varsity Football final in 2026

UJ coach Nthabeleng Modiko expects a closely contested 2026 Varsity Football final against TUKS after an unbeaten run to the decider.

UJ coach Ladies Nthabeleng Modiko expects a closely contested Varsity Football final against the University of Pretoria at UJ Soweto Stadium tonight. UJ have reached the 2026 decider unbeaten, recording four wins and one draw in five matches.

Modiko believes the final will be decided by which side carries out its plan more effectively. UJ and TUKS know each other well, leaving both teams with a clear understanding of the challenge before them.

For UJ, the coach has identified discipline, concentration and decision-making as key requirements. She wants her players to remain committed to the identity they have developed during the competition while maintaining the intensity that has taken them to the final.

Modiko has also urged the team to show courage when opportunities arrive. The coach feels that taking those chances and responding well to important moments will be central to UJ's performance against TUKS.

The unbeaten run has pleased Modiko, particularly because she has seen consistency and progress from the squad throughout the tournament. She said the players have dealt with different challenges without abandoning the principles set by the team.

Reaching the final reflects the work done by the UJ players and staff, but Modiko considers the tournament incomplete without a strong display in the deciding match. The coach expects the final to demand a higher level of focus and belief than the earlier fixtures.
