Musiala reveals treatable seizures after two Bayern collapses

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has disclosed that he has treatable absence seizures after collapsing during two recent friendly matches.

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he has brief, temporary but treatable absence seizures after collapsing during two recent friendly matches. The 23-year-old Germany international said the episodes are linked to a neurological dysfunction and that he is receiving specialist care.

Musiala fell to the ground shortly after coming on as a substitute in Bayern’s friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday. Players from both teams gathered around him while he received medical attention, before he was helped off the pitch.

The incident followed another collapse during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly win over RB Leipzig. Musiala later explained on Instagram that the two episodes were connected to the condition, which can cause the type of incidents seen in both matches.

After consulting neurologists, Musiala said he plans to continue playing football. He stated that he had medical clearance, felt positive about his recovery and believed there was no further health risk involved. He also said Bayern, his medical team and his personal support network were assisting him.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said after the Heidenheim match that the club already knew about Musiala’s condition. He indicated that the player would provide the explanation himself.

Musiala acknowledged that the collapses could appear alarming but said they were currently part of his everyday life. He has also asked for the details to remain mostly private, limiting discussion of the matter to his family, close friends, Bayern and his medical team.
