NBM pledges to settle Scorchers’ bonuses before WAFCON final

National Bank of Malawi has pledged to pay the Malawi Scorchers’ outstanding game bonuses and allowances as they prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Cameroon. The commitment was made before Sunday evening’s match in Rabat, where the team is staying.

NBM chief executive officer Harold Jiya visited the players at their hotel alongside Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya. Jiya told the squad that the bank would settle the payments in full and encouraged them to concentrate on the final.

NBM is the official sponsor of the Scorchers. Jiya said the bank had backed the team from the beginning of its campaign and remained proud of the results achieved by the players. He also reaffirmed NBM’s intention to continue supporting the side.

The payment pledge addresses both the team’s outstanding match bonuses and allowances. It comes as Malawi prepares for its final assignment of the tournament, with the players seeking to complete a campaign that has brought them strong backing at home.

Haiya praised the Scorchers for bringing Malawians together through their performances at the competition. He urged the team to maintain its focus and complete the campaign with a victory against Cameroon.

Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga thanked NBM for its financial backing and continued commitment to the team. She also acknowledged the support provided by FAM and its leadership during the tournament.

Jiya’s visit combined the bank’s sponsorship of the national team with a direct assurance on the unpaid bonuses. The Scorchers will now take that support into the WAFCON final, with the payment commitment forming part of the team’s preparations for the match.
