Nduva, Nsanzuwera share 5-under lead at Sunshine Development Tour

Nyali’s Daniel Nduva and Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera are tied at five under after two rounds of the fifth Sunshine Development Tour leg.

Daniel Nduva and Celestin Nsanzuwera share the lead on five-under par after the second round of the Absa Ruiru Invitational. Nduva carded 67, while Nsanzuwera returned 66 in the fifth leg of the Sunshine Development Tour’s East Africa Swing.

Nduva, representing Nyali Golf Club, moved into contention with four birdies at the second, ninth, 13th and 17th holes. A bogey at the 18th was his only dropped shot of the round. His overall position follows his victory in the Royal Nairobi Golf Club leg earlier in the season.

Nsanzuwera began the day joint fifth on one-under par before producing the day’s stronger score among the leaders. The Rwandan made birdies at the third, fourth, ninth, 12th and 16th holes, with a single bogey at the 14th taking him to five under overall.

Nyali professional Samuel Njoroge Chege is third on four-under par after also signing for a 67. Chege, who won the Absa Invitational at Nyali last month, recovered from bogeys at the fourth and fifth holes with birdies at the second, eighth, 12th, 13th and 14th.

Mike Kisia of VetLab Sports Club is fourth on three-under par. His 66 helped him recover from an opening-round score of one over par. John Karichu of Limuru Country Club, Golf Park’s David Wakhu and Nigeria’s Godwin Okoko share fifth place on two under.

The top 30 players and ties will contest the final round on Tuesday. The event carries a Sh2 million prize purse, with Sh400,000 set aside for the winner.
