New book Behind The Brilliance profiles 15 sporting icons

Connie Henry MBE and Paul Zanon release a new book exploring the personal journeys and resilience of fifteen global sports legends.

A new book titled Behind The Brilliance has been released, documenting the lives of 15 prominent sporting figures. Conceived by former international athlete and social impact strategist Connie Henry MBE, the work was written by British historian Paul Zanon.

The publication focuses on the personal and professional histories of athletes who faced significant adversity and tragedy before reaching the top of their sports. Through 15 exclusive interviews, the book details how these individuals navigated critical life moments to achieve success.

Notable stories included in the collection involve John McAvoy, who set world records while in prison, and Michael Watson, who finished the London Marathon after a near-death experience during a boxing match. The book features contributions from several high-profile figures, including Olympic champions Daley Thompson CBE, Dame Denise Lewis, Lord Sebastian Coe, and Colin Jackson, as well as boxing promoter Frank Warren.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán is also among the contributors, providing his views on how athletic discipline and social impact can drive change. The project aims to highlight how sports can serve as a mechanism for transformation for both individuals and organizations.

All profits from the book sales will be directed to the Behind The Brilliance Giving initiative. These funds are intended to support grassroots organizations, finance community projects, and provide empowerment for the next generation of sports leaders.
