NFF and FIFA to present Nigeria amateur football report in Abuja

The NFF and FIFA will present a multi-year review of Nigeria’s amateur football structures and activities during a two-day Abuja event.

The Nigeria Football Federation and FIFA will hold a two-day presentation of Nigeria’s amateur football environment report in Abuja on Wednesday and Thursday. Nigeria currently sit first in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations standings with nine points from three matches, having won all three games and scored eight goals while conceding four.

The report is the result of a multi-year assessment of football below the professional level. FIFA’s Global Football Development Division carried out the analysis in partnership with the NFF, with the review focused on the structures and activities shaping amateur football in Nigeria.

The event will take place at the Sandralia Hotel in Wuye. FIFA technical experts Amr Moheb, the organisation’s Amateur Football Analysis Manager, and Etienne Sockeng, a Regional Technical Consultant with the Global Football Development Division, will lead the presentation.

NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau will open the programme on Wednesday. The first day is set aside for the NFF executive committee, management and staff to receive the findings and take part in the discussions.

Thursday’s session will involve the federation’s external stakeholders. Those expected include the National Sports Commission, Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria Olympic Committee, National Institute for Sports, NFF Technical and Development Committee, Nigeria Football Coaches Association, school football organisations, the Women’s Football Committee and representatives of the leagues.

Also included are sporting media, the Medical Committee, Referees Committee, coaches of the junior national teams, the Beach Soccer and Futsal League board, and clubs and academies. The discussions are intended to give participants an opportunity to examine the amateur game, identify areas for cooperation and support its development.

Nigeria’s recent senior-team form has included two wins, two draws and one defeat in five matches, with results ranging from a 3-0 victory over Jamaica to a 1-2 loss against Portugal. The Abuja review will focus instead on the wider football system that supports participation and development at amateur level.
