Nine Nigerian players are expected in the 2026/27 English Premier League, including established stars, returning players and new top-flight faces.
Nine Super Eagles players are set to feature in the 2026/27 English Premier League season, giving Nigeria a strong presence across several clubs. The group includes established top-flight figures, players returning after promotion and three Nigerians preparing for new opportunities in England’s highest division.
Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will continue together at Fulham. Iwobi remains one of Nigeria’s most experienced Premier League players and has become an important part of Marco Silva’s midfield. Bassey has also secured a regular role since joining Fulham from Ajax, with his strength and ability to cover different defensive positions adding to his value at Craven Cottage.
Nottingham Forest will again have Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi in their squad. Aina has built a reputation as a dependable defender who can operate on either side of the back four. Awoniyi will be aiming for greater continuity after injuries affected his recent seasons, having already shown his ability to pose a serious threat when fit.
Frank Onyeka is returning to the Premier League with newly promoted Coventry City, having previously played in the division with Brentford. His experience will be important as Coventry begin life among England’s top-flight clubs. Semi Ajayi is also returning after helping Hull City win promotion, while winger Adeyinka Akintola will have his first opportunity to play in the Premier League after being part of the same Hull promotion side.
Brighton’s teenage winger Divine Yohanna is among the most notable new arrivals. He moved from AIK on a five-year contract after rising through Nigerian academy football, with Brighton identifying his pace, creativity and one-on-one ability. At Brentford, Benjamin Fredrick has moved into the first-team squad after making an impression at youth level. The 21-year-old defender has also agreed a new four-year contract.
The nine-player list therefore combines Premier League experience with players beginning their first campaigns in the division. Iwobi, Bassey, Aina and Awoniyi provide continuity, while Onyeka and Ajayi bring previous top-flight knowledge to promoted clubs. Akintola, Yohanna and Fredrick will be seeking to establish themselves at this level during the 2026/27 season.
