NPFL 2026: New title sponsor to end decade-long wait in Abuja
The NPFL is preparing to unveil a new title sponsor in Abuja on August 26, ending a decade without a conventional league naming partner.
The Nigeria Premier Football League is expected to unveil a new title sponsor in Abuja on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, ending a wait of about 10 years for a conventional naming partner. The company’s identity has not been disclosed before the ceremony.
The last major title sponsorship belonged to telecommunications company Globacom. The league used the Glo Premier League name until that partnership ended in February 2016, after the 2016 Super Four competition was completed.
After Globacom’s exit, the League Management Company moved away from relying on one title sponsor and instead pursued commercial partners in different categories. That left the NPFL without a traditional title sponsor for the following decade.
Negotiations for the new agreement have been valued at about ₦10.2 billion. The proposed partnership would give the league a major commercial relationship as it prepares for a new season and continues efforts to improve its business and digital structure.
The NPFL also announced a YouTube streaming partnership with Murphy Ben International earlier this month. That agreement is intended to increase the league’s visibility, open additional commercial opportunities for clubs and make matches available to supporters outside Nigeria.
Together, the streaming deal and the planned title sponsorship would give the NPFL two significant commercial developments. The return of a naming partner could increase the league’s value to clubs and players while strengthening its appeal to companies seeking exposure through Nigerian domestic football. Wednesday’s unveiling will establish whether the NPFL has finally restored a corporate identity to its top-flight competition.
