Mamelodi Sundowns set to miss out on Ndah as Libya move nears

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to miss out on Nigeria defender Olisa Ndah, 28, who is nearing a move to an unnamed Libyan club. Sundowns have seven points from their opening three PSL matches and sit third in the standings.

Ndah has been without a club since leaving Stellenbosch FC at the end of last season. The centre-back had attracted interest from several South African teams, while a possible move to the Middle East had also been discussed without reaching completion.

Sundowns became one of the strongest options for the former Orlando Pirates defender in recent weeks. However, negotiations stalled because of the foreign-player quota in the South African champions’ squad, making it difficult for the club to complete the deal.

Ndah is now in advanced discussions with a Libyan club, although his prospective destination has not been identified. The transfer could be confirmed soon and would take the Nigeria international abroad for the first time, after previous spells in Nigeria and South Africa.

His career has included Akwa United, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC. Ndah joined Pirates from Akwa United in the 2021/22 season and later moved between Stellenbosch and periods without a club. His listed market value was €400,000 during his time with Stellenbosch.

The defender’s injury history includes a tibia and fibula fracture as well as a knock, with injuries affecting his progress during the past two years. A move to Libya would give him an opportunity to resume his career outside South Africa, while Sundowns will need to consider other defensive targets as they pursue domestic and continental honours.
