NUST Warriors target strong finish in Khomas Netball League
NUST Warriors are chasing promotion, a division title and a Premier League play-off place as the Khomas Netball League season nears its end.
NUST Warriors are preparing for a strong finish to the Khomas Netball League season, with their three teams competing for different objectives. The first-division side is pursuing a place in the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League play-offs, while the second and third teams are both targeting promotion and division titles.
The second-division team is seeking promotion to the first division and the championship in its section. The third-division side has similar ambitions, aiming to move into the second division while also finishing top of its competition. Their progress has made NUST one of the competitive forces in the domestic league.
The Warriors’ season has also included a significant performance outside Namibia. They finished second at the Southern African Universities Staff Sports Association Games in South Africa, reaching the semi-finals and final for the first time. That campaign gave the players experience against stronger opposition and increased their belief ahead of the closing stages of the Khomas competition.
Third-division captain Menarandjambi Tjaverua said the team’s strength comes from its unity, discipline and ability to manage academic, professional and sporting demands. The squad is made up of student-athletes who are balancing their studies and work with the requirements of competitive netball.
Head coach Jane Toivo is focused on developing the players physically and mentally, while also preparing them for life away from the court. Several former NUST players have reached Namibia’s national team and Premier League clubs, including Elisia Hambongo and Loide Hanyanya. Toivo said producing players capable of progressing to the national team remains a central part of her coaching work.
The club’s pathway allows beginners to enter the sport and advance through its divisions. Its defensive organisation was recognised with the Best Defensive Team award during the 2025 Khomas League season. Financial constraints remain a challenge, however, with the Warriors looking for sponsors and partners to help provide equipment, playing attire and opportunities to compete in international events.
