Okoye welcomes Udinese’s 1-1 Serie A draw against strong Como
Maduka Okoye says Udinese valued their 1-1 Serie A draw with Como after helping the team against a strong side at home.
Maduka Okoye has welcomed Udinese’s 1-1 draw with Como in Serie A, describing the point as valuable after a demanding match at the Bluenergy Stadium on Saturday. Udinese had wanted all three points but finished level with Cesc Fabregas’ team.
The Nigeria goalkeeper said the result reflected the quality of the opposition and praised Udinese’s overall performance. Although the home side did not hold on to their lead, Okoye felt the point was a positive return from the contest.
Udinese moved in front shortly before the half-hour mark. Hassane Kamara finished the opening goal, with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp supplying the assist as the hosts established an advantage before the interval.
Como responded nine minutes into the second half through Anastasios Douvikas. His equaliser brought Fabregas’ side back into the game and ensured that Udinese could not turn their first-half lead into a home victory.
Okoye also highlighted his contribution in goal, saying he was pleased to support the team with his saves. His assessment focused on the collective effort, with the goalkeeper judging Udinese’s display to have been strong despite the dropped points.
The draw means Udinese collected one point from a match they entered hoping to win. Como’s equaliser prevented the hosts from taking maximum points, but Okoye’s reaction showed satisfaction with the outcome against a side he considered strong.
