
Opoku, Mensah score on debuts as Adu nets in 3-2 win abroad

Joseph Opoku and Bernard Mensah scored on their club debuts over the weekend, although their goals produced contrasting results. Opoku helped Swansea City recover from an early setback to beat Stoke City 2-1 in the Championship opener, while Mensah scored and assisted in Al-Riyadh’s 4-2 Saudi Pro League defeat by Al-Ettifaq.
Prince Kwabena Adu was also on target as Viktoria Plzeň defeated FC Zlín 3-2 in the Czech First League. Frank Appiah supplied an assist for Zlín in the same match, but his contribution was not enough to prevent defeat.
Emanuel Poku scored in Almere City’s 3-1 victory over Jong PSV Eindhoven in the Eerste Divisie. In China, Frank Acheampong put Dalian Yingbo ahead against Yunnan Yukun, but the advantage did not last as Dalian eventually lost 3-1 in the Chinese Super League.

In England, Kwame Poku played 58 minutes for QPR in a 3-1 win over Portsmouth. Antoine Semenyo completed the full match for Manchester City in their 3-0 FA Community Shield loss to Arsenal. Mohammed Fuseini played all 90 minutes for Royale Union SG in a draw with Waregem, and Luis Narh featured for 30 minutes in Antwerp’s 3-0 victory over Kortrijk.
Ghanaian players also featured across Major League Soccer. Prince Owusu scored as CF Montreal drew 1-1 with DC United, while Joseph Paintsil played the entire match in Los Angeles Galaxy’s 1-0 loss to Houston Dynamo. Ronald Donkor completed 90 minutes for New York Red Bulls in a 2-1 defeat by Atlanta United, and Manu Duah played the full game in San Diego’s 1-0 win over Los Angeles FC.
