Semenyo's Manchester City lose 3-0 to Arsenal in FA Community Shield

Manchester City began the new season with a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal in the FA Community Shield, with Ghana international Antoine Semenyo completing the full 90 minutes. The result denied City and Semenyo the chance to claim the first silverware of the campaign.

Semenyo started on the right wing but could not help City recover from Arsenal’s quick opening goal. Arsenal moved ahead after one minute when Riccardo Calafiori created space following a pass from Lewis-Skelly and sent his effort into the bottom-left corner.

City struggled to establish control after falling behind, while Arsenal continued to create danger in the final third. The London side doubled their advantage in the 28th minute, with Christos Tzolis supplying the cross for Kai Havertz to score with a header past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City had a chance to reduce the deficit before the interval. Erling Haaland collected a loose ball inside the Arsenal penalty area and aimed a low shot towards the centre of the goal, but David Raya positioned himself well to make the save.

Arsenal added a third three minutes after the restart. Tzolis produced another assist, finding Martin Odegaard in the area, and the Arsenal captain finished into the bottom-left corner in the 48th minute. City could not find a response during the remainder of the match as Arsenal protected their three-goal lead.

For Semenyo, the defeat marked a difficult start to his time at Manchester City after his move from Bournemouth. The 26-year-old joined City in the 2025/26 season following his spell with Bournemouth, but his first appearance in this fixture ended without a goal or an assist. Arsenal’s victory gave them the Community Shield, while City left without a trophy despite Semenyo remaining on the pitch for the entire contest.
