Gor Mahia beat Migori Youth 4-3 on penalties to win Green Legacy Cup

Gor Mahia won the Green Legacy Cup after beating Migori Youth FC 4-3 on penalties at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, August 16. The match had ended 2-2 after the 90 minutes, with the Kenyan champions recovering from a two-goal deficit before prevailing in the shootout.

Gor Mahia had the first major opportunity when Paul Okoth won a penalty in the 15th minute. Musa Shariff failed to convert, and Migori Youth punished the missed chance by scoring twice before half-time. The first goal came in the 32nd minute after a defensive mistake, while the second arrived six minutes later.

Okoth gave Gor Mahia a route back into the contest with a goal in the 45th minute. Head coach’s first-half deficit was reduced before the break, and the champions made an attacking change immediately after the interval, sending on Ebenezer Assifuah for Shariff.

Assifuah equalised in the 49th minute, restoring parity just after his introduction. Gor Mahia continued to press for a winner, while their defence dealt with an early Migori Youth break. Alpha Onyango later replaced Lawrence Juma, before Ben Stanley and Enock Machaka entered in the 72nd minute for Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw and Jackson Dwang’.

Neither side found a third goal, sending the final to penalties. Gor Mahia kept their composure from the spot to win 4-3 and complete the turnaround against a Migori Youth team that had led 2-0.

The cup success comes with Gor Mahia top of the FKF Premier League after 34 matches. They have 69 points from 20 wins, nine draws and five defeats, with 50 goals scored and 22 conceded. Their last five league results include wins over APR and Murang’a SEAL, defeats by Vipers and Nairobi United, and a goalless draw with Mara Sugar.

Gor Mahia’s next listed fixture is against Al Assiouty Sport in the CAF Champions League on September 5, 2026. The Green Legacy Cup victory follows their appearance at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, where they reached the final after a 5-0 win over APR and a penalty-shootout victory against Al Hilal.
