Cape Town City Reject €800k Górnik Zabrze Bid for Witbooi

Cape Town City have turned down an €800,000 offer, valued at about R15 million, from Polish Ekstraklasa club Górnik Zabrze for 17-year-old Emile Witbooi. The Cape Town club has decided not to accept the proposal for the young player.

City’s valuation remains above the amount offered by the Polish side. The club is seeking €1 million for Witbooi, a figure estimated at between R18 million and R20 million. Zabrze may still return with an improved bid, but no further offer has been confirmed.

Witbooi has attracted interest from clubs in South Africa and abroad after his performances for City. Orlando Pirates, who won the South African league title, made an enquiry about the player but did not submit an offer. The Zabrze proposal is therefore the clearest bid yet linked to the midfielder.

The teenager’s season ended with individual recognition when he was named the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season. His performances contributed to City reaching the promotion playoffs, giving the campaign added significance for both the player and the club.

Górnik Zabrze are owned by former Germany international Lukas Podolski, linking the offer to a club with a prominent figure in European football behind it. The Polish team competes in the Ekstraklasa, the country’s top division.

Witbooi is now preparing for the upcoming season with Cape Town City. For the moment, he remains with the Mother City-based club, with City holding firm on a valuation higher than Zabrze’s initial €800,000 proposal.
