Gor Mahia hand Charles Akonnor Nissan X-Trail before new season

Gor Mahia have upgraded coach Charles Akonnor’s transport with a black Nissan X-Trail as the champions prepare for domestic and continental demands.

Gor Mahia have upgraded head coach Charles Akonnor’s transport by giving him a black Nissan X-Trail SUV ahead of the club’s next campaign. The vehicle replaces the saloon car previously used by the Ghanaian coach.

The move comes as Gor Mahia prepare to defend their Football Kenya Federation Premier League title while also returning to continental competition. The club has positioned the upgrade as part of its support for Akonnor and his technical team before a demanding season.

Gor Mahia finished first in the 2025 FKF Premier League with 69 points from 34 matches. Their record was 20 wins, nine draws and five defeats, with 50 goals scored and 22 conceded.

Their recent results have been mixed. They lost 1-0 to Vipers and 1-0 against Nairobi United, drew 0-0 away to Mara Sugar and recorded wins over APR and Murang'a SEAL. The victory against APR was a 5-0 result, while Murang'a SEAL were beaten 3-1.

The club’s next listed fixture is against Al Assiouty Sport in the CAF Champions League on September 5, 2026. That continental assignment adds to the pressure on Akonnor as Gor Mahia seek to maintain their domestic standing and compete against stronger opposition in Africa.

Gor Mahia announced the vehicle presentation on their Facebook page. The gesture reflects the club’s effort to improve the working conditions around the technical bench as it prepares for both the FKF Premier League and Champions League commitments.
