Owili century leads Uganda to 384-run win over Mozambique

Uganda's Baby Cricket Cranes secured their second consecutive win in the ICC Boys U19 World Cup Qualifiers Division 2 by defeating Mozambique by 384 runs. After winning the toss and electing to bat at the Gahanga Cricket Oval B, Uganda posted a total of 410 for six in their 50 overs. Mozambique was bowled out for only 26 runs in response.

Robert Owili anchored the innings with a milestone performance, becoming the first Ugandan batter to score a century in this tournament. Owili struck 132 runs from 96 balls, an innings that included 15 fours and three sixes. He was supported by Samuel Ahaisibwe, who scored 77 off 53 balls with 12 boundaries. Captain Daniel Rubangakene contributed 36 runs, while Richard Sohera and Larry Elton Itaagi remained unbeaten with 32 and 28 respectively to push the total past 400.

Uganda's batting dominance was reflected in their boundary count, as the team hit 38 fours and nine sixes during their innings. Despite an early loss of Devanshkumar Patel for a duck, Abraiz Mir Ali provided stability with 34 runs before the middle order took control. The partnership between Owili and Ahaisibwe allowed Uganda to reach 251 for three by the 34th over.

Mozambique's chase failed to gain momentum and collapsed quickly under the heat. The bowling attack was led by Hamidu Munigwa, who took four wickets for nine runs. Richard Sohera delivered a standout spell, claiming four wickets while conceding only a single run.

With two wins from two matches, Uganda maintains a perfect start to the tournament. The team has a rest day on Tuesday, August 11, before they face Ghana on Wednesday at the IPRC Grounds.
