PSL Week 27 finale brings defining tests for Bosso, DeMbare and Manica
Highlanders, Dynamos and Manica Diamonds face key Week 27 fixtures as title chasers and relegation candidates pursue points in the Castle Lager PSL.
Three Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches bring Week 27 to a close, with Highlanders, Dynamos and Manica Diamonds facing important fixtures. Scottland lead the standings on 57 points, while Hardrock are second on 54 after Saturday’s results.
Scottland defeated Simba Bhora 2-1 to extend their advantage, while Hardrock stayed close with a 2-1 win over FC Hunters. FC Platinum also won, beating Agama 1-0, and MWOS moved past ZPC Kariba 4-1. Triangle United defeated TelOne 2-0, while Bulawayo Chiefs and CAPS United shared a goalless draw, increasing the pressure on the teams still chasing the leading pair.
At Barbourfields, Highlanders welcome fourth-placed Herentals. Bosso are on 38 points, seven behind Herentals, who have put together a strong campaign and are aiming to remain among the leading sides. Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari will need a home victory to prevent the gap from widening, while Herentals coach Paul Benza has recognised that the hosts are a more difficult opponent in Bulawayo.
Dynamos meet Chicken Inn at Rufaro in another fixture with consequences for the title race. DeMbare occupy third place with 46 points and would move to 49 with victory, strengthening their position behind the two leaders. Chicken Inn have 34 points and need a result that can revive their campaign against one of the league’s leading teams.
Manica Diamonds have a different priority when they host Ngezi Platinum Stars at Sakubva. Ngezi sit fifth on 44 points and would rise to 47 with a win, keeping their push for a top-four place on course. Manica are near the bottom of the table and require points in their fight to avoid relegation.
The three matches carry different pressures, but the equation is clear. Highlanders need to close the gap on the upper positions, Dynamos must protect their title challenge, and Manica need a result against a team pursuing the top four. Herentals, Chicken Inn and Ngezi will each have their own targets as the league moves into the decisive phase.
