Rangers revive interest in Sheffield United striker Ryan Oné

Rangers have renewed their pursuit of Sheffield United centre-forward Ryan Oné. The Glasgow club is currently in discussions with the English side to bring the young striker back to Scotland.

The move follows a significant injury blow to Youssef Chermiti, who ruptured his ACL during a match against Hibernian on Sunday evening. Chermiti is expected to be unavailable for the rest of the campaign, leaving a gap in the Rangers attack.

Oné, a 20-year-old Scotland youth international, previously developed at Hamilton Academical. After making 36 senior appearances for Hamilton in the Scottish Championship and League One, he moved to Sheffield United in the summer of 2023. While he made a debut against Arsenal, he spent much of the 2023-24 season playing for the Blades' reserve team.

During a recent loan spell at Lincoln City in the third tier, Oné recorded five goals and one assist in 16 league matches. Although Sheffield United rejected an initial loan-to-buy proposal from Rangers, negotiations have continued as the club seeks to bolster its offensive options.

Derek McInnes requires depth in his 4-4-2 system to manage a busy schedule involving four different competitions. The current attacking options include Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi, and Bojan Miovski. Shankland is still finding his rhythm after moving from Hearts, while Naderi has struggled to provide consistent goal output despite his high work rate. Miovski remains a secondary option for the squad.

Oné is noted for his mobility and physical presence in the penalty area. A move to Ibrox would provide the club with a player capable of stretching opposing defences as they navigate their upcoming fixtures.
