Sixteen teams compete in Chibuku Super Cup first round

The Chibuku Super Cup kicks off this weekend as 16 teams compete in the first round of the tournament. The knockout competition features a variety of matchups, ranging from local derbies to clashes between established top-flight sides and ambitious challengers.

Action starts on Friday at Rufaro Stadium, where Scottland FC will host FC Platinum in the opening match. On Saturday, the tournament continues with three fixtures. MWOS FC face Agama FC at Ngoni Stadium, while CAPS United meet Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium. At Baobab Stadium, Ngezi Platinum Stars take on ZPC Kariba.

Sunday's schedule includes three more matches. Dynamos FC will host TelOne FC at Rufaro Stadium, a fixture that marks the first assignment for TelOne coach Joel Luphahla following his return to the dugout. At Chawanda Stadium, Hardrock FC will play Bulawayo Chiefs, and Herentals College FC will face FC Hunters at Ngoni Stadium.

The weekend concludes with the Bulawayo derby at Barbourfields Stadium, where Highlanders FC take on Chicken Inn FC. This match is expected to draw a large crowd as the two local rivals compete for a place in the next stage of the competition.

All eight matches are single-elimination ties. The winners of these encounters will progress to the next round, while the losing teams will be eliminated from the Chibuku Super Cup.
