Brighton reconsider loan move for defender Igor Julio

Brighton have altered their position regarding the future of Igor Julio. After spending several months insisting on a permanent sale, the Premier League club is now open to a loan move for the Brazilian defender.

The club previously sought a fee of approximately €6m (£5.2m) to allow the 28-year-old to leave. Earlier this summer, Brighton rejected various approaches that did not meet this valuation and showed little interest in a temporary transfer. However, the lack of a suitable permanent offer has led to this change in stance.

Negotiations are currently underway between Julio and an unnamed club in Germany. While a previous attempt to move to Schalke 04 failed earlier in the window, the defender is now exploring this new German option. Julio has stated his primary goal is to secure regular playing time, regardless of his destination.

The shift in policy could reopen doors for Brazilian clubs that were previously blocked by Brighton's transfer requirements. Botafogo had made an enquiry for the defender, but discussions stalled because the Seagulls would only consider a permanent transfer. Similarly, Cruzeiro had identified Julio as a priority for former manager Artur Jorge but could not meet the €6m asking price.

With the loan option now being viewed favourably, these Brazilian sides could return to the negotiating table under different terms. If the current talks with the German club do not progress, Julio may find himself moving back to Brazil under these new conditions.
