Ngwenya receives death threats after Nduli injury incident

Zimbabwe international Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has reportedly been targeted with death threats on social media. The 23-year-old AmaZulu forward received the abusive messages following a challenge that injured Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli during their 1-1 draw at Kings Park on Wednesday.

The incident occurred shortly after the second half restarted when Ngwenya caught Nduli on the ankle with a late challenge. The referee issued a yellow card to the AmaZulu striker for the foul. Nduli required medical treatment on the pitch and was substituted 10 minutes into the second half.

This injury came during Nduli's first start of the current season after his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury sustained in November last year. Orlando Pirates have not yet confirmed the full extent of the midfielder's new injury.

A source close to Ngwenya stated that the forward did not intend to cause injury to Nduli and is disturbed by the nature of the messages. The controversy followed Ngwenya's goal in first-half stoppage time, where he converted a penalty to equalise after Tshepang Moremi had opened the scoring for the Buccaneers in the seventh minute.

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane noted that his player could have managed the situation more effectively. Zwane expressed his regret regarding the injury, particularly as Nduli was returning from a long-term absence, and wished the midfielder a quick recovery.
