Semenyo breaks Yeboah’s Ghanaian scoring record in Premier League

Antoine Semenyo scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, beating Tony Yeboah’s previous Ghanaian record of 12 in one campaign. The Manchester City forward has now moved past a mark Yeboah set during the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons.

The achievement carries particular meaning for Semenyo, who has identified Yeboah as one of the players who shaped his ambitions. He also named former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan and ex-Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba among the players he admired while growing up.

Semenyo, 26, said the performances of those players gave young footballers a model to follow, and he now wants his own Premier League success to have a similar effect. Reaching the record has strengthened his desire to continue improving and to become an example for children watching Ghanaian players in England’s top division.

The right winger’s record-breaking campaign preceded his move from Bournemouth to Manchester City during the 2025/26 season. The database lists the transfer at €72 million, while Semenyo is valued at €80 million at his new club. He holds Ghanaian and English citizenship.

Semenyo has also spoken positively about working under City manager Enzo Maresca ahead of the new campaign. He believes the coach has adapted quickly to the squad and has introduced ideas that are close to those used by the previous manager, although the players will need time to fully adjust.

The forward described Maresca as driven to win every available trophy and said the squad had accepted the new approach. He also pointed to the experienced players who remain at City as an important source of leadership while the team works towards the new season.
