Nwabali discusses Chippa United return and Mpengesi relationship

Stanley Nwabali has expressed his happiness regarding his return to Chippa United. The goalkeeper stated that being back at the club feels like returning to his home and family.

Following the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Nwabali left the Eastern Cape side to seek new opportunities. This move resulted in him spending six months away from competitive action. During this period, he remained in Johannesburg to maintain his fitness by training with former Moroka Swallows goalkeeper and current Yanga coach, Greg Etafia.

Nwabali confirmed that his relationship and agreement with Chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi are positive. He noted that his primary objective is to help the team succeed and collect points this season. Regarding his status with the Nigerian national team, the 31-year-old said he is not currently worried about his international position, choosing instead to focus on his club duties.

Competition for the starting goalkeeper position remains high at Chippa United. Nwabali is vying for the spot against Dumisani Msibi, a former South African junior international. The goalkeeper welcomed this competition after a previous season where he recorded eight clean sheets across 19 matches in all competitions.

Nwabali has already featured in two Betway Premiership matches this season. He is preparing for his third appearance when Chippa United faces Orlando Pirates at Kings Park Stadium tomorrow.
