Arsenal links to Victor Osimhen appear less likely than Chelsea interest

Speculation regarding Victor Osimhen's potential move to Arsenal appears less substantial than previous reports linking the striker to Chelsea. While Chelsea reportedly maintained concrete connections to the Nigerian forward through club legends John Mikel Obi and Didier Drogba, the links to Arsenal are currently based on informal discussions.

Initial rumors of an Arsenal move for the 2023 African Footballer of the Year caused significant social media activity earlier this week. However, interest has subsided following information that no direct contact has been made with the Galatasaray striker. The speculation intensified after reports suggested Arsenal officials discussed the player during a chance meeting with Galatasaray representatives.

Some reports suggested Arsenal could attempt a complex deal involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri to secure the former Napoli top scorer. Galatasaray has reportedly made a verbal offer of €45m (£38.5m) for Martinelli and has shown interest in Nwaneri, who was on loan at Olympique Marseille last season.

Despite these permutations, Galatasaray has blocked any move for Osimhen this summer. The Turkish club has rejected a €130m (£111m) bid from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal and has made it clear the striker is not for sale. The club intends to keep the forward for another season after his productive spell following his move from Napoli in 2024.

Osimhen has recorded 59 goals in 74 appearances since joining the Super Lig champions. Galatasaray is currently focused on strengthening their squad and may even pressure the striker to accept the captaincy, a role he previously declined.
