Sevilla director suggests Chidera Ejuke exit is imminent

Sevilla sporting director José Ignacio Navarro has indicated that Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke is likely to leave the club this summer. The 28-year-old forward was excluded from the squad during recent pre-season training camps and exhibition matches held in Germany and the Netherlands.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Navarro explained that the decision to leave the winger behind was intentional. He stated that because of ongoing issues regarding the player's status, it was better for all parties if Ejuke did not participate in the club's recent travels. The club is currently working to find a buyer for the player before the transfer window shuts.

Ejuke joined the Andalusian side on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow in June 2024. His current three-year contract is scheduled to run until June 2027. However, Sevilla is facing financial constraints and needs to generate revenue, meaning they must sell the winger now to avoid losing him for free next year.

The winger's recent performances have been poor. During the 2025/26 season, he struggled with hamstring injuries and failed to produce significant numbers, recording only one goal and one assist in 27 LALIGA appearances. His lack of output coincided with a difficult period for the club, which narrowly avoided relegation.

While several clubs in the Saudi Pro League have shown interest, the Nigerian international is expected to favor a move within Europe. Sevilla is currently restructuring its roster to improve its finances, having already sold striker Akor Adams to Venezia for €16 million.

Due to his uncertain status, Ejuke is unlikely to feature in Sevilla's opening LALIGA match of the 2026/27 season against Rayo Vallecano this Saturday.
