Sporting Lagos extend coach Jeffery Buter’s deal ahead of NPFL return
Sporting Lagos have retained Jeffery Buter as coach after he led the club to the NNL title and promotion ahead of the 2026-27 NPFL season.
Sporting Lagos have extended head coach Jeffery Buter’s contract ahead of the 2026-27 Nigeria Premier Football League season. The agreement keeps the coach in charge as the club prepares to return to Nigeria’s top division after a two-year absence.
The Lagos club announced the decision on its X account, completing a continuation of the partnership that delivered promotion last season. Buter will therefore remain responsible for the team’s next campaign after guiding it through the Nigeria National League.
Sporting Lagos won the NNL title under Buter. The team finished first at the promotion playoff tournament in Ikenne, securing its place back in the NPFL after competing outside the top flight for two seasons.
The contract extension reflects Buter’s role in taking the club to the highest level of domestic football. His work with Sporting Lagos ended with both the second-tier championship and promotion, giving the club a direct route back to the NPFL.
Sporting Lagos will begin the new league season against Doma United. The fixture is scheduled for Sunday, 30 August, at Patami Stadium and will mark the club’s first match of the 2026-27 campaign.
Buter’s renewed deal means Sporting Lagos will start their top-flight return with the coach who led them through the successful NNL campaign. The club’s immediate focus now shifts from promotion to preparing for the NPFL season and the opening match against Doma United.
