Ghana lose Comfort Yeboah for 2026 U20 Women's World Cup campaign

DUX Logroño have refused to release Ghana defender Comfort Yeboah for the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Ghana will be without 19-year-old right-back Comfort Yeboah at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after Spanish club DUX Logroño declined to release her for the tournament in Poland. Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson confirmed that the club’s decision has ended Ghana’s efforts to include the defender in his squad.

The tournament falls outside the FIFA international window, allowing the Spanish top-flight club to retain Yeboah. Sampson said DUX Logroño had become concerned about the amount of time the player has spent away from the club while representing Ghana’s senior women’s team.

Yeboah was part of the Black Queens squad at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. She also featured for Ghana at the previous edition of the continental tournament, adding to her recent senior international commitments.

Her unavailability creates another selection problem for Sampson as he prepares the Black Princesses for the global competition. Ghana have already lost seven important players through injuries, including captain Linda Owusu Ansah, who sustained an ACL injury while on senior international duty.

The injury absences also include three goalkeepers: Asana Osman, Grace Andoh and Jenna Kayla Sarpong. Forwards Mercy Attobrah and Mary Amponsah, along with midfielder Jessica Appiah, are the other players ruled out.

Sampson must now reorganise his defence and reshape the wider squad without Yeboah or the injured group. The coach had tried to secure the defender’s release, but the club has maintained that it wants her available during the World Cup period.
