Tylon Smith joins New England Revolution on loan from QPR

Bafana Bafana central defender Tylon Smith has completed a move to Major League Soccer side New England Revolution. The 21-year-old joins the American club on loan from Queens Park Rangers through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.

The deal includes an option for New England Revolution to purchase the player. The move follows Smith's time in England with Queens Park Rangers, where he saw limited playing time. He previously developed within the youth system at Stellenbosch but did not make a senior appearance for the club.

Smith rose to prominence during the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he earned the Player of the Tournament award. This performance led to his move to the English Championship side. He now joins fellow South Africans Olwethu Makhanya and Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the MLS.

New England Revolution General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Chris Tierney described Smith as a promising player who will add strength to the team's defence. Tierney noted that the defender has established a solid foundation through his experiences with both his club and his youth national team.

The club expects the MLS environment to be the right setting for Smith to further his professional development.
