Uganda's Torach follows Bogere pathway to Danish champions AGF

Uganda defender Elvis Torach has joined Danish champions AGF from El Cambio Academy on his 18th birthday, becoming the third player from the Masaka academy to move to the Danish club. He will begin with AGF’s U19 team as he continues his development in Denmark.

Torach’s move places him on a pathway already used by fellow Ugandans James Bogere and Hamuza Sengooba. The pair were the first El Cambio graduates to sign professional contracts with AGF, while Bogere has since progressed into the senior squad.

Bogere was part of the AGF team that won the Danish championship last season and scored a late goal during the title run-in. His emergence in the first team has given added weight to the partnership between the Aarhus club and the Ugandan academy.

Torach was among Uganda’s notable performers at the country’s first FIFA U-17 World Cup appearance in Qatar last year. Uganda reached the round of 16 and finished 14th in a 48-team tournament, with the defender listed among the players who stood out during the campaign.

The defender had also travelled to Denmark for trials before completing his transfer. He made that trip with Bogere, Sengooba and Isma Magala Mulala, all of whom had been part of Uganda’s U-17 national team set-up.

AGF and El Cambio signed a 15-year cooperation agreement in 2024. The arrangement established the Masaka academy as a key recruitment and development channel, with AGF supplying technical expertise and opportunities for young players to pursue careers in Denmark.

During the 2024/25 financial year, seven boys and girls from El Cambio visited AGF, while three coaches from the Danish club worked in Uganda with the 68 youngsters then at the academy. Torach’s immediate task will be adapting to a new country and the tactical and physical demands of Danish football before any move towards senior football is considered.
