Wanda Diamond League: Hana Moll wins Zurich pole vault at 4.90m

Hana Moll won the Zurich pole vault with a personal-best 4.90m, securing her second successive Wanda Diamond League victory. The 21-year-old American also earned a place in next week’s Final in Brussels.

Moll’s victory came at Zurich’s central train station, where about 3,000 spectators watched her overcome a difficult start and defeat home favourite Angelica Moser. Sandi Moris finished third at 4.75m.

The winner needed three attempts to clear both 4.50m and 4.65m. She recovered at 4.75m, going over on her first try, before clearing 4.85m at the second attempt.

Moser matched Moll’s 4.85m clearance with her second jump and then set a Swiss indoor record at the height. Moll answered by clearing 4.90m first time, producing the winning mark and a new best for her career.

Moris had remained faultless through 4.75m but missed her first two efforts at 4.85m. She passed on that height and came close to clearing 4.90m with her final attempt, but the bar fell.

Moll arrived in Zurich only five days after taking the first Diamond League win of her career in Lausanne. Her latest success confirmed her qualification for the Brussels Final, alongside Moser, Katie Moon, Tina Sutej and Imogen Ayris.

The American said the setting and the support from the crowd helped lift her performance. She also described her season as a positive one after adding a personal best and another Diamond League win to her record.
