X1 DOL Super Cup finals remembered for shootout drama over years
The X1 DOL Super Cup finals have featured tight scores and penalty drama, with Ebusua Dwarfs beating Semper Fi in the 2026 decider.
The X1 DOL Super Cup finals have repeatedly gone to the wire, with the latest ending Ebusua Dwarfs 5-4 ahead on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Semper Fi in 2026. The Cape Coast side secured its first title at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium after another closely contested final.
The 2026 decider followed a pattern that has become familiar in the competition. Ebusua Dwarfs and Semper Fi could not be separated during the 90 minutes, forcing the trophy to be settled from the penalty spot. Ebusua Dwarfs converted enough attempts to claim the crown in a 5-4 shootout win.
Penalty drama was also central to the 2021 final at the Madina AstroTurf. Skyy FC and Tema Youth finished level at 1-1 after Ebenezer Mamatah had scored for Skyy FC and Emmanuel Owusu had restored parity for Tema Youth. Skyy FC then won 7-6 in the shootout.
The next two finals were decided by a single goal. Liberty Professionals defeated Nsoatreman FC 1-0 at the Kyebi AstroTurf in 2022, with Seedorf Asante scoring the match-winning goal. Bofoakwa Tano produced the same scoreline against Skyy FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in 2023, when Saaka Dauda found the decisive goal.
Vision FC and Okwawu United returned the competition to penalties in 2024. Their final at Nana Kronamansah Park in Nsoatre ended goalless before Vision FC prevailed 7-6 from the spot. Across the finals from 2021 to 2026, the competition has produced two penalty shootouts ending 7-6, two 1-0 victories and a 1-1 draw settled by a 5-4 shootout.
