Former Nigeria U17 defender Osuji leaves Club Brugge for Tromso

Former Nigeria U17 defender Vince Osuji is leaving Club Brugge for Norwegian club Tromso after two years without a senior league appearance.

Former Nigeria U17 defender Vince Osuji is leaving Club Brugge for Norwegian club Tromso after the two sides agreed a transfer for the 20-year-old centre-back. The move ends his two-year stay with the Belgian club, during which he did not make a senior league appearance.

Osuji joined Club Brugge in January 2024 after moving from Swedish side Kalmar. His spell at Kalmar lasted six months and attracted interest from clubs in several European countries before he switched to Belgium.

The defender remained with Club Brugge’s youth team throughout his time at the club. He did not make the expected progress into the senior side, and the Belgian club has now agreed to let him continue his career in Norway.

Tromso is regarded as a suitable destination for Osuji to rebuild his confidence and seek regular first-team football. The Norwegian club is involved in the Europa Conference League and is scheduled to face Brighton on Thursday.

Osuji will not be eligible to feature for Tromso in that European fixture. His transfer is expected to be formally announced after he completes a routine medical, with the agreement between the clubs already in place.

The move gives Osuji a new opportunity at senior level after two seasons without a league appearance for Club Brugge. At Tromso, the former Nigeria youth international will look to establish himself in the first team and regain the progress that made him a target for European clubs after his brief period at Kalmar.
