Zebi & Friends retired footballers complete health screening exercise
About 25 members of Zebi & Friends received medical checks and health education during a preventive healthcare exercise organised with HEAL.
About 25 members of Zebi & Friends, a group of retired footballers, have taken part in a health screening exercise designed to encourage regular medical checks and healthier living. The programme was held on Saturday, August 22, near Osu Oxfords Street in partnership with Health Enhancement and Access Link (HEAL).
A medical team from HEAL guided the participants through several laboratory examinations. The checks included blood sugar testing through HbA1c, a lipid profile for cholesterol, kidney and liver function tests, a full blood count and prostate-specific antigen screening.
The partnership also enabled members to access the laboratory services at reduced prices. That arrangement was intended to make important health assessments more affordable while giving the retired footballers an opportunity to monitor their condition.
Health education formed another part of the exercise. Participants were advised to have routine medical examinations so that possible health problems could be identified and managed early. They were also encouraged to make careful choices about their diets and other aspects of their daily lifestyles.
The guidance placed particular emphasis on the changing nutritional and healthcare needs that come with advancing age. Although many former sportsmen remain active, the exercise highlighted the importance of preventive care as they deal with health concerns linked to ageing.
The leadership of Zebi & Friends welcomed the partnership with HEAL and viewed the screening as a significant measure for protecting the wellbeing of the group’s members. The initiative combined access to medical tests with practical advice on maintaining healthier habits after football.
