Ghana defender Ebenezer Annan joins Rapid 1923 on €150,000 loan

Ghana international Ebenezer Annan has left Saint-Etienne for Romanian club FC Rapid 1923 on a €150,000 loan deal. The agreement was completed on 25 August 2026 and will keep the 24-year-old at the Bucharest side until 30 June 2027.

Annan moves from France’s Ligue 2 to Romania’s SuperLiga at the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign. He had not played for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2 this season, registering no starts, goals or assists before the switch.

The left-back joined Saint-Etienne from Serbian club Red Star in August 2025 for €2 million. His time in France lasted one season, while his next move gives him the chance to compete in Romania’s top division. He remains under contract with Saint-Etienne after the loan ends.

Annan was born in Accra and represents Ghana at international level. He is 1.78 metres tall, left-footed and primarily operates at left-back, giving Rapid a specialist option on that side of their defence.

Before arriving in France, Annan built his career through a series of moves in Italy and Serbia. He started senior football with Imolese in July 2022 after joining from Bologna’s Under-19 team on loan. A year later, he moved temporarily to Novi Pazar before returning to Bologna at the end of the season.

Novi Pazar signed him permanently for €350,000 in July 2024, but he left the club that same month for Red Star in a €550,000 transfer. During the 2024-25 season, he spent part of the campaign on loan at OFK Beograd and returned to Red Star at the end of December 2024. He helped Red Star win the Serbian league and Serbian Cup and was part of the squad that secured a second consecutive Serbian championship in 2025-26.
