Zurich Diamond League 2026 preview: Wanyonyi leads star-studded field
Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Julien Alfred and Audrey Werro headline Zurich’s August 26-27 Diamond League meeting, with Brussels qualification at stake.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Julien Alfred and Audrey Werro headline the 2026 Weltklasse Zürich meeting, which takes place on August 26-27. The Diamond League regular season ends in Zurich, leaving athletes with their final chance to secure qualification for the Brussels final.
The meeting will also help shape the final championship push before the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. Competition begins on Wednesday evening at Zurich Main Station with the women’s pole vault before the main programme continues at Letzigrund Stadium.
Alfred will renew her rivalry with world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in the women’s 100m. Jefferson-Wooden recently ended the Saint Lucian’s winning run. The women’s 800m brings another rematch, with Swiss athlete Werro facing Femke Broeders-Bol after their contest at the European Championships.
Swiss world champion Ditaji Kambundji will compete in the 100m hurdles against Olympic champion Masai Russell, while world-record holder Tobi Amusan and indoor 60m hurdles record-holder Devynne Charlton add depth to the field. In the high jump, Olympic champion and world-record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh meets 2025 world champion Nicola Olyslagers, alongside world silver medallist Maria Żodzik and Serbia’s Angelina Topić.
Wanyonyi leads a men’s 800m field that includes Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati, the other medalists from the 2025 World Championships and 2024 Olympics. That race is not a Diamond League points event. The men’s 1500m features world champion Isaac Nader, Olympic champion Cole Hocker and Tokyo champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen. In the long jump, Olympic champion Miltiádis Tentóglou and world champion Mattia Furlani will compete, with Swiss athlete Simon Ehammer also in the field.
Armand Duplantis arrives after clearing 6.20m in Poland and could target 6.32m in the non-points pole vault. Karsten Warholm and Alison dos Santos meet again in the 400m hurdles after Dos Santos set the 2026 world-leading mark of 46.43 seconds in Silesia. The men’s 200m lineup had not been confirmed by August 24.
Coverage is available through the official Diamond League YouTube channel in many territories, subject to restrictions. FloTrack will show the event in the United States, CBC in Canada, and BBC Sport, BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in the United Kingdom. Swiss viewers can follow SRG SSR services, including SRF, RTS and RSI.
