3SC sack Nurudeen Aweroro and staff after 3-0 loss to Ikorodu City
Shooting Stars SC have terminated the contracts of head coach Nurudeen Aweroro, assistant Shakiru Lawal, and manager Tammy Tamuno following a heavy friendly defeat.
Shooting Stars SC have officially terminated the contracts of head coach Nurudeen Aweroro, assistant coach Shakiru Lawal, and team manager Tammy Tamuno with immediate effect. The club described the departures as a mutual agreement following discussions between the board and the technical staff.
The decision follows a 3-0 friendly defeat against Ikorodu City, the club Aweroro previously managed. This loss occurred on the same day the Ibadan-based side learned they would face Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
Aweroro's tenure at 3SC was marked by significant achievements, including leading the club to a third-place finish in the 2025/26 NPFL season. This performance ended a nearly thirty-year period without continental football and secured the club a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.
During his 280 days in charge, Aweroro oversaw 38 matches. He recorded 18 wins, 6 draws, and 14 defeats, accumulating 60 points for an average of 1.58 points per game.
Interim assistant coaches have been instructed to manage the technical department until a permanent replacement is appointed. The 3SC board issued a statement thanking the outgoing trio for their professionalism and commitment to the club.
