Acapulco seeks to host the 64th WBC Annual Convention in 2026

Guerrero is pursuing Acapulco as the venue for the 64th WBC Annual Convention in November 2026, after the city hosted the 2022 edition.

Acapulco is being considered for a return as host of the World Boxing Council’s 64th Annual Convention, with the event targeted for November 2026. The proposal is being pursued by the government of Mexico’s Guerrero state as part of efforts to bring major international sports gatherings to the city.

Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda has made tourism development and the promotion of Guerrero a priority. Her administration views events with international media exposure as a way to strengthen Acapulco’s profile and support its position as a global tourism destination.

Initial work on a possible bid has already taken place. Recent contacts and a working meeting have focused on the possibility of presenting an immediate proposal for Acapulco to host the WBC’s 64th convention. No final decision on the venue has been given in the available information.

Acapulco previously staged the WBC’s 60th Annual Convention in 2022. The city also hosted the WBC’s “Verde y Oro” amateur boxing tournament, which concluded in August 2026. Those events add to its experience in organising boxing activities and international gatherings.

The city has substantial hotel capacity, transport links and an established record of hosting sporting events. These are among the factors supporting the effort to bring the convention back to Acapulco four years after its previous WBC edition there.

The proposal comes as Acapulco continues its recovery after Hurricane Otis struck near the city on October 25, 2023. The cyclone was described as the strongest tropical storm to make landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Since then, the city has worked to preserve its place among the world’s leading tourism destinations, with high-profile events forming part of that wider effort.
