Alberto Blas vows early destruction against Brandon Birr at BKB 58

Alberto Blas will put his BKB super featherweight title on the line against Brandon Birr at BKB 58 on August 29, carrying an 8-0 record in the promotion. Every one of those victories has come by stoppage, with seven ending inside the opening round.

The Cuban-born Miami fighter has warned Birr that a brief opening could be enough to end the contest. Blas believes he can finish the former champion within a minute if the opportunity appears, but he is also preparing for the possibility that the rematch reaches the full six rounds.

That broader preparation follows his last outing. Blas claimed the inaugural BKB super featherweight championship by stopping Harold McQueen at 2:20 of the third round at BKB 50 in January. McQueen’s early pressure and speed prevented the champion from relying solely on his usual first-round attack before Blas found the chance to close the fight.

Blas had previously built his reputation through rapid finishes. In September 2024, he retained the BKFC bantamweight title with a 56-second knockout of unbeaten Ryan Reber, scoring two knockdowns in the process. His BKFC record stood at 6-0 after that result, with all six victories completed in the first round.

Birr brings championship experience into the title defence. The Cleveland fighter previously held the BKB featherweight belt and was considered the most experienced opponent for Blas when the pair were initially scheduled to contest the vacant super featherweight championship. Blas instead faced McQueen for that title, leaving Birr to challenge for it at BKB 58. Birr has also suffered a second-round knockout loss to Yampier Ramirez.

The preparation has kept Blas away from his children for about two months. He has made the sacrifice while building for an 18-minute contest, even though his BKB career has never gone beyond the third round. The bout will take place at Miami’s James L. Knight Center.
