Alhassan Yusuf scores first career hat-trick in MLS 3-0 victory
Alhassan Yusuf scored three times as New England Revolution beat DC United 3-0, reaching five goals in his best season to date.
Alhassan Yusuf scored his first career hat-trick as New England Revolution defeated DC United 3-0 away in MLS on Wednesday. The Nigerian international produced all three goals in a landmark performance for the club.
Yusuf put New England ahead in the 23rd minute, then struck again shortly before half-time to give the Revolution a two-goal advantage at the interval. He completed the scoring 21 minutes after the restart with a close-range header.
The result extends New England’s strong start to the season. The Revolution controlled the contest sufficiently to leave DC United without a goal, while Yusuf’s finishing provided the decisive difference between the teams.
The hat-trick takes Yusuf to five goals and two assists this year. It is already the highest scoring season of his career, despite the campaign still continuing.
Yusuf’s achievement also places him among a small group in Revolution history. He is the eighth New England player to score three times in a regular-season match, and the first to do so for the club since Kei Kamara nine years ago.
New Designated Player winger Jack Harrison played a part in each goal, supplying the final pass for all three of Yusuf’s finishes. His involvement helped the English winger build an immediate connection with his new teammates as New England secured a convincing away victory.
