Anthony Moruthane nominated for SA Sports Award

Tennis South Africa General Manager Anthony Moruthane has received a nomination for the Sport Administrator of the Year at the SA Sports Awards.

Anthony Moruthane has earned a nomination for the Sport Administrator of the Year at the SA Sports Awards. The Tennis South Africa (TSA) General Manager will compete for the honour against Jonathan Leaf-Wright of the Central Gauteng Lions and Sonja Schulz of Cycling South Africa.

Moruthane described the recognition as an unexpected and special moment in his professional life. He noted that he found it difficult to find the words to express how much the nomination means to him.

His career in tennis administration started in 2011 when he served as a volunteer for TSA. Since then, he has worked in various capacities, including managing public relations for the media, before being appointed to his current role as General Manager in January 2025.

Moruthane believes the nomination is a reflection of the collective efforts within Tennis South Africa. He credited the ability to implement new ideas to the support of his colleagues. He also noted that the sport is currently seeing positive growth through better structures and increased national visibility.

The Limpopo-born administrator acknowledged the difficulties involved in leading a national federation. He highlighted the need for constant innovation and hard work to manage the demands of modern sport while balancing growing participation rates against limited resources.
