Arsenal prepared to pay large fee for Barcelona defender Koundé

Arsenal are prepared to pay a significant transfer fee to secure the services of Barcelona defender Jules Koundé. The Gunners are currently the most interested party in the 27-year-old, though they face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Koundé, who can play as both a centre-back and a right-back, recently returned to his Catalan club following the summer break. His agent, Jonathan Kebe, was seen at Barcelona's training ground two days ago, following recent links to Arsenal. While the France international is under contract until 2030 and has not expressed a desire to leave, his role at the club has become uncertain.

Barcelona are not opposed to selling the former Sevilla player if a substantial offer is received. The club does not view him as a strategic player for their future plans, but any departure depends on the player's decision. Koundé is expected to meet with manager Hansi Flick to discuss his future and his prospects for regular playing time.

Competition for the defender is high, as Liverpool and Manchester City have also shown interest. Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, though they must sell players before they can make a formal move.

Koundé's position at Barcelona has shifted as Eric García has become the preferred choice at right-back. The manager may look to use the defender in a central role, particularly following the loan of Ronald Araújo to Liverpool. The meeting with Flick is expected to clarify whether Koundé will be a regular starter in the upcoming season.
