AshantiGold beat Tamale City 2-0 but exit X1 DOL Super Cup Group B
AshantiGold defeated Tamale City 2-0 but missed the X1 DOL Super Cup semi-finals after finishing Group B on four points.
AshantiGold beat Tamale City 2-0 but still failed to reach the X1 DOL Super Cup semi-finals. The victory gave AshantiGold four points in Group B, the same total as Nsuopon Fidelity, who progressed instead on goal difference.
Frederick Twumasi put AshantiGold ahead in the 36th minute at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. It was the club’s first goal of the competition. Faroq added the second in the 89th minute, securing a winning finish that could not change AshantiGold’s position in the group.
The decisive result came at OforiKrom Park, where Semper Fi defeated Nsuopon Fidelity 1-0 in the other Group B match. Francis Eshun scored in the 49th minute, taking Semper Fi to five points and the top of the section.
Nsuopon Fidelity’s four points were enough for second place because of their superior goal difference. AshantiGold therefore ended third and were eliminated, while Tamale City finished bottom with two points. Both group matches were played at the same time on Saturday.
Tamale City’s recent form had shown one win, one draw and three defeats in five matches. They had lost to Debibi United, Northern City and Yapei, drawn with Sankara Nationals and beaten Wa Power before facing AshantiGold. The defeat in Obuasi ended their own Super Cup campaign.
Semper Fi and Nsuopon Fidelity will represent Group B in the semi-finals. AshantiGold’s win was not enough to keep them in the competition, despite producing their strongest attacking return of the group stage.
