Black Queens demand accountability following Ministry dispute

The Black Queens of Ghana have issued a response to the Ministry of Sports following the rejection of player concerns regarding welfare, bonuses, and outstanding payments. The players stated they are seeking respect, fairness, and accountability rather than conflict or special treatment.

Disagreements have emerged over the timing of per diem payments. While the Ministry stated these payments began on July 26, the players questioned why they were not provided at the start of their official camp on July 11. The squad also expressed disappointment that the Ministry addressed the public before engaging with them directly, noting that previous attempts to seek clarification went unanswered.

Financial disputes also involve qualification bonuses for the matches against Egypt. The players noted that a similar bonus was paid last year and recalled being told during a visit from the Minister on July 28 that an accountant would deliver the funds. However, the players claim only $700 was received, which they maintain does not constitute the promised qualification bonus.

The Ministry of Sports has countered these claims, asserting that all approved allowances have been settled. The Ministry stated there was no government approval for winning bonuses for the WAFCON qualifiers against Egypt, though it noted the Cape Verde winning bonus is currently being processed. Officials also maintained that the team has sufficient medical and welfare support.

Despite these tensions, the Black Queens remain focused on their upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualification play-in. The team is preparing to face Côte d’Ivoire in a match that determines whether they progress to the intercontinental playoffs. The players reaffirmed their pride in representing the nation while preparing for this decisive fixture.
